Empowering Women Through Community: A Conversation with BIG Founder Tara Gilvar

Building a brand — and a life — takes courage, clarity, and community. And sometimes, the thing that changes everything starts in someone’s living room.

In this episode of This Might Get Creative, I sat down with Tara Gilvar, founder of B.I.G. (Believe Inspire Grow), a women’s empowerment community that has supported thousands of women across multiple states. Tara started B.I.G. 17 years ago after recognizing something she saw in herself and so many women around her: a loss of identity, purpose, and professional confidence after stepping away from traditional careers.

B.I.G. was never meant to become a business. It started with one simple email Tara sent to 100 women: “We’re still smart. We’re still capable. Maybe we can figure out how to be professionally fulfilled again.”

Forty-two women showed up in her living room. The rest became history.

Why BIG Works: Women Supporting Women

One of the most powerful parts of Tara’s story is her belief that women are not meant to build things alone. B.I.G. is built on the idea that you are supported before you ever “earn” it.

In Tara’s words:
“Women need to feel seen, heard, and validated. That’s when they rise.”

Today, the B.I.G. community supports women across five pillars:

  1. Financial education

  2. Entrepreneurship & professional development

  3. Relationships & life transitions

  4. Wellness, self-care & confidence

  5. Lifestyle, travel & enjoyment

It’s not just business support. It’s whole-woman support.

The Branding Conversation Women Need

As a branding agency serving Morris County, Mount Olive, NJ and beyond, I see this daily: A strong brand builds confidence. When your website, colors, messaging, and visuals feel like you, everything clicks.

Tara sees the same thing inside B.I.G..

Your brand isn’t just a business tool — it’s an identity anchor.
It’s a space to take up room again.
It’s a reminder of who you are and who you’re becoming.

And something powerful happens when women step into that clarity:
They stop hiding.
They start building.
And they start imagining what’s possible.

What the Next Generation of Women Needs

We talked a lot about how much has changed — and how much hasn’t.

Yes, technology matters.
Yes, social media has changed the way we connect.
Yes, younger generations move differently.

But the core of what women need hasn’t changed in thousands of years:
To belong. To be supported. To have choices. To be seen.

And for many women, independence starts with financial literacy, community support, and small, consistent steps toward what they truly want.

My Favorite Part of the Conversation

Tara shared a story about a woman who walked into her living room 15 years ago—divorced, out of work, walking dogs for income, unsure of her next step.

When Tara asked her what she really wanted to do, she said:
“Open a bridal shop.”

B.I.G. surrounded her.
Women in the room helped her write a business plan.
Someone connected her to seed funding.

Today, she owns one of the top bridal shops in New Jersey.

This is the power of clarity, community, and courage.

Where B.I.G. Is Headed Next

B.I.G. continues to grow across the country, expanding through both local chapters and online community-building. New generations of women are joining, bringing new skillsets, energy, and ideas.

And the most exciting part?
The brand evolution happening behind the scenes — something Tara and I are working on together — will elevate B.I.G. into a modern, sophisticated, relevant brand that resonates with women today.

(Stay tuned — it’s going to be beautiful.)
