Eric Vasquez has designed campaigns for Major League Baseball, WWE, SYFY, A+E, HGTV, and Wondery. He’s won a ProMax Award. He’s led creative teams responsible for multimillion-dollar global launches.
And somewhere along the way, he realized he’d lost touch with why he fell in love with design in the first place.
In the latest episode of This Might Get Creative, Eric pulls back the curtain on 16 years in-house at some of the biggest entertainment brands in the world — the layoffs, the grind, the moment he decided to bet on himself — and what he’s doing now to bring the human element back to his work.
Perfection Is Boring
Eric has a clear stance on AI: use it as a tool, but don’t let it replace the creativity that makes your work worth something.
“AI is the plastic of design. The real value comes from understanding your client’s story and translating that into something unique and memorable.”
Every year he does what he calls an Analog Pivot — stepping away from his digital workflow to get back to gel plate printing, hand sketching, and magazine collage in New Orleans. Not as a hobby. As a deliberate strategy to stay human in a world that keeps chasing perfection.
Because perfection, as he puts it, is boring. The happy accidents, the imperfections, the things that happen in the process — that’s where the real value lives. And that’s exactly what AI can’t replicate.
What This Means for Your Brand
Eric’s advice for any business owner thinking about their brand: stop asking what your logo looks like and start asking what story it tells. The businesses that stand out are the ones where the design means something — where there’s a reason behind every choice.
