Love Travels Well: The Lace Passport Luxury Romance Branding Case Study

Episode 1 of This Might Get Creative – A Behind the Brand Podcast

Ever wonder what it really takes to turn passion into a brand that stands out?
For our very first episode, I sat down with Lynnette Peña-Kelly, founder of Lace Passport, a luxury romance travel brand crafting unforgettable destination weddings and honeymoons. We talked about career pivots, the real work behind “wearing every hat,” why boundaries are a business strategy, and how clear branding can save you hours of back-and-forth with clients.

If you’re building something you love—or dreaming about it—this one’s for you.

Meet the Guest: Lynnette Peña-Kelly, Founder of Lace Passport

Lynnette didn’t follow a straight line. She tried on a few lives first—hospital work, interior design classes, bartending to push past introversion, and even a stint at a European river cruise company. Those experiences taught her the industry from the inside and planted the seed for Lace Passport.

Today, Lace Passport helps couples plan romance-first travel—think destination weddings and custom honeymoons across the Caribbean and beyond. Her brand tagline says it best: Love travels well.

Big Ideas From Our Conversation

1) The “every hat” season is real—and temporary

When you start, you are every department: sales, marketing, customer care, finance. Lynnette’s truth bomb: it’s okay at first, but it’s not sustainable. Watch for the moment simple tasks keep falling to the bottom of your list. That’s your cue to hire help.

“When simple tasks keep falling to the bottom, it’s time to hire.”

2) Boundaries are a growth strategy

Lynnette protects Sundays. If a client is traveling, she’s available. Otherwise, messages wait until Monday. Clear rules reduce burnout and set healthy expectations—for you and your clients.

3) Process upgrades come from pressure

A 232-guest destination wedding stretched her systems—and revealed where clients needed more clarity. Result: better onboarding, more proactive education, and fewer repeated questions.
Lesson: if people keep asking the same thing, build it into your process (guides, checklists, autoresponders, templated replies).

4) Branding makes the experience smoother

Before we worked together on the Lace Passport identity, Lynnette wanted a brand that felt like her—personal, romantic, intentional—but not literally “her name.” Once the identity clicked, content felt easier, and clients recognized the vibe instantly. That’s what brand clarity does: it reduces friction at every touchpoint.

5) Why destination weddings (often) win

Caribbean destinations like Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Jamaica offer a powerful combo: all-inclusive resorts, beautiful settings, and—surprise—real cost savings. One of Lynnette’s couples hosted 232 guests for under $30K(excluding attire), something that would be exponentially more expensive locally.

Favorite Destinations (and Why)

  • Dominican Republic: Beaches + welcoming culture.

  • Mexico: Epic food scene, variety of resorts, ease of access.

  • Jamaica: Music, vibe, and guest-friendly all-inclusive options.

Planning tip: Start with experiences you want (sunset catamaran, off-resort adventures, private venues). That narrows destinations fast.

How Lace Passport Works With Couples

  1. Quick pre-call questionnaire to skip the boring stuff in the conversation.

  2. Discovery call to check chemistry and goals (you’re together for 12–24 months!).

  3. Two package options for wedding planning support.

  4. Destination + resort recommendations based on vision, budget, and activities.

  5. Guest management handled—so you’re focused on… your vows, not logistics.

“Once the hotel is confirmed, any family questions? Send them to me. You get to enjoy being engaged.”

Practical Takeaways for Founders

  • Protect one day (or half-day) per week. You’ll come back clearer.

  • If a task drains you and lingers, delegate it. Your speed is in your strengths.

  • Turn repeated questions into templates, guides, and automations.

  • Your brand is more than your name—let your identity stand on its own.

  • Big milestones (a huge client, a massive event) are feedback gifts. Use them to tighten process.
